From the Principal
Happy Friday Parents!
We are all very excited for Spring Break around here!  While a break is always good, we have some business to take care of first.  Unfortunately, we are still missing approximately 200 choice sheets from next year’s 7th and 8th graders. The counselors will be meeting with these students today and Monday to assist them in completing their choice sheets, and we would appreciate your support in reminding your child to turn in their choice sheet on Monday if they haven't already. We have given students ample time to complete these, but the time has come for us to know exactly how many students are requesting each class so that we can hire appropriately over the summer. The only schedule changes that will be made during scheduled pick up in August will be for mistakes, such as two PE classes, a missing class, etc.  If your child wants to request a schedule change for any other reason, they will need to complete a schedule change request form in the front office during the second week of school. The schedule change committee will meet on the second Friday in September and make decisions on these requests. Thank you for your support.
As the weather gets warmer, the clothing gets smaller.  Please remind your children of the dress code, which can be located in the Round Rock ISD Student/Parent Handbook:
Hopewell will be having a Spring Pep-Rally on Friday, March 10th.  During the pep-rally, some teachers and administrators will get “Creamed for a Cause”.
Students will be able to add their spare change in the bucket for the staff member they want to see get a pie in the face.  This is always a fun activity and allows us, educators, to have fun and be silly for a good cause.  The proceeds from this fund-raiser will go straight to Hopewell's Beautification Process!  I am working on making our campus more colorful and inviting and the funds will be used for banners, murals, and paintings.  This is an ongoing project which will continue for years to come and will be funded through various fund-raisers throughout the years.
A final shout out to our wonderful PTA volunteers who made our Go-Green event such a success.  The students absolutely enjoy this tradition and are working hard to earn the ability to attend.  Volunteers are the only way we can make this happen and we appreciate your time, commitment and positive energy.  When parents are involved, student success increases.  I hope to see many volunteers sharing this event with us next time....be sure to check out the PTA link for opportunities to be involved.
Have a wonderful weekend!

TESTING TIDBITS
ALL 8th GRADERS TAKING THE PSAT ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19TH IN THE MORNING:
On Wednesday, October 19th, ALL 8th graders in RRISD will be taking the 8th grade version of the PSAT.  The PSAT establishes a baseline measurement of your child’s college and career readiness as he or she enters high school.  It also provides your child a chance to preview the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) along with other PSAT readiness tests they will be taking in high school.  Your child cannot actually prepare or study for this PSAT and these tests are not for a grade nor will affect any class average.  Please make sure that your child comes to school having a good breakfast and plenty of rest the night before.  If you would like more information on the PSAT 8/9 test, please visit the College Board website at: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-8-9

STARS MENTOR PROGRAM
The STARS (Supporting, Teaching, and Reaching Students) Mentor Program is a school-based program encompassing students in grades K-12. The Mentor Program provides an opportunity for business and community volunteers to improve students’ academic attitude and enhance their school experiences by acting as a positive role model, building a friendship, and exploring college and career opportunities.
Students are nominated for a variety of reasons and must have a signed parental approval form on file. Once matched, the mentor and the student meet regularly on campus during the normal schools hours, typically over lunch approximately once a week.
Mentors are screened, trained, and carefully matched with students. After training, mentors are connected with the campus Mentor Coordinator.  For more information, please visit the RRISD website.
