STUDENTS MAY BRING BACKPACKS TO THEIR CLASSES BEGINNING TUESDAY, JAN. 19TH
After listening to the Hopewell student leaders, the Hopewell administrators have decided to allow all students to carry both the string and regular sized backpacks to their classes beginning next Tuesday, January 19th.  Teachers will be letting you know today and next Tuesday where they want you to keep your backpacks in their classrooms.  The important thing is that the backpacks are not scattered throughout the room and in the walking areas in each classroom. The locker schedule will stay the same.

5th GRADERS VISITING HOPEWELL ON WEDNESDAY
We are excited to have our rising 6th graders visit our campus next Wednesday morning.  We will give them a tour of the building, have them hear and watch performances by the choir, band, orchestra and theater department, and learn more about the course selections for next school year.  It’s always a great event and a huge day for those elementary students.  They will see firsthand what a safe, friendly school we have at Hopewell.

5TH GRADE PARENT NIGHT WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH FROM 6-7:30PM
We will have our second annual MIDDLE SCHOOL 101 for our 5th grade parents and 5th graders on Tuesday, February 9th from 6-7:30PM in the cafeteria and lower commons areas.  We will begin with a general meeting in the cafeteria then will dismiss the parents and 5th graders to the lower commons where our elective staff will be available to explain and give out information on their course.  It’s a great evening and opportunity to meet the Hopewell elective teachers and find out what each elective course has to offer.   I will be delivering a flyer of information to each feeder elementary to go home with the 5th grade students in the next couple of weeks.

SPINAL SCREENING INFORMATION FOR 6th GRADERS:
Dear Hopewell Parent/Guardian:
A state mandated Spinal Screening Program will be conducted in the 6th grade to identify children with scoliosis or other spinal curvatures. Previous screening programs in schools have shown that seven to ten children in every 100 may develop scoliosis and one of three will require treatment. With early detection through screening programs, severe deformity and other related health problems may be prevented.

Screening will be held on Wednesday, January 27th, during PE. Girls must wear a sports bra, camisole or bathing suit top. Bra is not acceptable. Boys will be asked to remove their shirts. Girls and boys will be screened separately in a private area.

If you do not want your child to participate in this screening program, please notify the school nurse in writing, prior to the screening date and provide current documentation of physician’s screening results.
