Our 6th Grade Game Night was a great success and all 6th grade attendees seemed to have a great time.  Our Hopewell PTA moms and dads helped with games, supervision and concessions and provided a great opportunity for our 6th graders to connect to Hopewell school life and build pride in their school.  We had about 60 sixth graders attend and about 40 then went to the boys’ basketball game and watched both the A and the B teams beat CD Fulkes!  A Special thanks to Amy Hinds our PTA President for organizing it and for making it happen and to Mr. Meave for helping out with the successful event.

Hopewell and Stony Point Transition Timeline events for your calendars:
February 3rd: Middle School 101 evening event for 5th graders and their parents.  6:30-8:00 in the Hopewell Cafeteria and commons area.
February 11th: Future Tiger Night at Stony Point HS for 8th graders. See SPHS website for details
February 17th: Hopewell parent night for current 6th and 7th graders.  Information on choice sheets, course selections, and electives will be given in the Hopewell cafeteria and commons area.
February 24th: ALL SIGNED choice sheets are due back for 6-8 graders.

No Homework will be assigned on Friday, January 16th for the three day weekend and no tests or quizzes will be given on Tuesday, January 20th
Lastly, in memory of our former Hopewell Hornet, Peyton James, who passed away this fall, his mom has started a wonderful and powerful initiative named “Kindness Matters.” This Friday, January 16th is Kindness Matters Day in memory of Peyton.  The purpose of the Kindness Matters Day is to cover the internet with stories of kindness.  There are two aspects to Kindness Matters Day.  First, mom is asking everyone to do an act of kindness then take a selfie, post it on one of the Kindness Matters Social Media sites and share that story of kindness.  If you want to wear a Kindness Matters t-shirt or bracelet or orange shirt – even better!  Secondly, that same evening, Friday, January 16th mom is hosting a Kindness Matters Day Celebration on the square in downtown Georgetown.  There will be a kindness pledge to sign, free coffee and cookies with be served, and a group picture at 6:15PM.  Georgetown’s Mayor Ross will also be there to welcome everyone.  Wear your Kindness Matters t-shirt if you have one or an orange shirt but no matter what, everyone of course is welcome to attend.  This event and effort would no doubt put a smile on Peyton’s face!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Enjoy the warm weather!

Karl

Waggoner's Word - January 9, 2015

January 9, 2015

Dear Parents,

Calendar of Events for the Week of January 12th-16th:
Tuesday, January 13th: Cheer Audition Parent Meeting HMS Cafeteria 7:00PM
Thursday, January 15th: 6th Grade Game Night Party 4-5:30PM prior to Boys BB game vs. CD Fulkes MS.
Thursday, January 15th: 8th Boys BB vs. CD Fulkes 5:50PM, 7th Grade BB @ CD Fulkes 5:30PM
Friday, January 16th: NO HOMEWORK NIGHT
Monday, January 19th: Student/Staff MLK Holiday.  No School

Don’t forget that our 6th Grade Game Night is this next Thursday from 4-5:30.  We will have games, music, and hangout fun organized for our 6th graders only prior to the 8th grade boys basketball game vs. CD Fulkes.  6th graders will be encouraged to then attend the games from 5:30 to approximately 8:00.  Please make sure that if your 6th grader attends the Game Night and the games (B game is at 5:30 and the A game starts at approx. 7:15) that they are picked up directly after the game.  Since it is a school night, we do not want our 6th graders staying past that time.  Tickets may be purchased at the gym door for $1.00 if they want to attend the games.  They may want to bring some additional money to purchase goodies at our PTO run concession stand.

Please check out our main page on our Hopewell MS website for “Hornets to Tigers” transition timeline.  There are lots of important events for both parents and students to attend regarding elective choices, choice sheets, and information meetings for next school year.

Is your child interested in being a Hopewell cheerleader for the 2015-2016 school year?  If so, there will be a mandatory informational meeting for students and their parents/guardians on Tuesday, January 13th at 6:00PM in the cafeteria. At the meeting, you will find out about the application process as well as all it takes to be a Hornet Cheerleader.  Again, this meeting is mandatory for any student and their parent/guardian in order to apply to be a Hornet Cheerleader.

Our next NO HOMEWORK NIGHT will be next Friday, January 16th.  Teachers will not be assigning any homework that will be due on Tuesday, January 20th and there will not be any tests or quizzes to study for as well for the 20th

8th grade students and students new to RRISD:  All 8th grade students, and students who are new to the district, will be having their state mandated spinal screen on Friday, January 23rd. If your student is under Dr.'s care for diagnosed scoliosis, you may opt out by providing documentation from the physician, prior to the screening. More information, about the screening, will be added to the Nurse's web page. If you have any questions, please contact Jamie Mayfield,Jamie_Mayfield@roundrockisd.org.

If you still have not joined the Hopewell PTA via our school website, it is not too late!  Just click on the PTA link on the left hand side, then click on Forms and Documents, then click on the PTA Membership Form and join for only $8.00!  Our HMS PTA does an incredible job supporting all the great events and activities at Hopewell for our kids.  Your membership helps fund those things and your children directly benefit.  Thanks!

Remember the MLK Holiday is next Monday, January 19th.  This is a student and staff holiday in observance of Martin Luther King’s birthday.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Stay warm and dry!
