Thank you,
Hopewell Administration Team
As you are probably aware by now we had to move the 8th grade Formal to NEXT FRIDAY, May 29th.  Our Student Council sponsors have been diligently working with their students preparing them for the STAAR exams and time became a factor in making this decision.  Supplies, decorations, and other dance items had not been delivered as of Monday.  I sincerely apologize to the parent community for any inconvenience and extra expense this may have caused you.  The Student Council sponsors and students want this Formal to be a great experience for all students and they felt that the only way to accomplish that goal was to move it to next Friday.  Again, apologies for any problem this may have caused you as parents.  In the future, we will make sure that this does not happen again.
Also, attached is the schedule for the last week of school events such as finals, awards assemblies, and yearbook distribution and signing.  We will be distributing yearbooks on Tuesday, June 2nd during all three lunches.  Students will sign yearbooks throughout the week no doubt but again the last day of school.
Our 8th grade boys’ basketball team whipped the faculty basketball team Thursday afternoon by three points.  The faculty were up by as much as 16 points in the third quarter but the students battled back and handed the faculty their second loss in four years.   It was a great game and the student body really seemed to enjoy the event and were ecstatic with the outcome of the game.  Well done students!  I am sure that Friday will bring some sore muscles for our great teachers who were great sports!
Our Spring Orchestra Concert was an incredible success on Tuesday evening.  Mrs. Allison Sozansky did a great job organizing the event and preparing her young musicians for their performances.  It was a great turnout and our talented kids really shined!
The I Am That Girl club members will be walking over to Union Hill Elementary on Tuesday, May 26 to read stories to Kindergarten students.  This service project is to promote the importance and enjoyment of literacy.  The girls have chosen some of their favorite picture books to share with the kindergartners.  Thank you to Ms. Milstead and Ms. Anderson at Union Hill for sharing their little ones with the girls.
Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day – 3 day weekend!

Ms. BUSH HAS RESIGNED EFFECTIVE MAY 13TH:
It is with great sadness that I inform our Hopewell MS Community that our Algebra One, Tag 6th Grade Math, Geometry, and Enriched Pre-Algebra teacher has resigned effective May 13th.  I’m sure that the decision to leave the kids and school that she loved was excruciating but family always comes first. She is going to be living in Ohio to be her Grandmother’s caretaker and will not be back.  We will miss her deeply and the positive impact that she had on so many young lives was profound.  In my 34 years as an educator, she is by far the best Algebra teacher I have ever worked with.  I am informing her students and will be giving them a letter explaining the situation to them today.  I have a certified math teacher in place for the remaining 14 days of school and will be hiring her replacement for next school year.

8TH GRADE FIELD TRIP RE-CAP:
Our 8th graders had a tough stormy 8th grade day this past  out at Reunion Ranch but all seemed to still have a great time hanging with their friends away from school.   Our students have worked hard preparing all year for their STAAR and EOC assessments and this gesture of appreciation by their teachers was a nice gift for them.  We called them back a couple hours early to get them out of harm’s way with approaching thunderstorms and they spent the balance of the afternoon watching a movie in our lecture hall.  They made a memory!
BOARD RECOGNITIONS SPECIFIC TO HOPEWELL MS:
This  is Hopewell Night at the Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees meeting at RRHS at   Our choir will be performing the National Anthem and our Junior Historians will again be recognized for their state and national achievements.  We are very proud of those two Hopewell organizations!

We will have our first annual “HORNET HELLO” which students will come back to Hopewell and pick up their new schedules, set up lockers, walk their new schedules, and meet up with friends as we start the new school year.  HORNET HELLO will be on .  More information on times for schedule pick up will be announced in future Waggoner’s Words so be looking for that.

YOUNG JUNIOR HISTORIANS ACCOMPLISHMENTS!
RRISD will recognize the Hopewell Jr. Historians on  at the RRISD School Board Meeting at Round Rock High school (same place as in April!)...please arrive around, so that we can be individually be signed in and get seated. It starts promptly at ,   The club as a whole will be recognized for the SILVER LEVEL Presidential Community Volunteer Awards Program, as well as several individual club members for their volunteer efforts this 2014-15 school year.  Additionally, we have several club members in the 8th grade that will be recognized as National History Club "Scholars", as well as our National History Club "Historian of the Year"!

TREVIN WADE-GUEST SPEAKER FOR OUR BOYS
Friday morning Trevin Wade, former Hopewell Hornet, Stony Point Tiger, University of Arizona Wildcat, and current New York Giant NFL football player spoke to our boys in the cafeteria about making good choices in life, how to treat girls and others with respect, and the importance of working hard and getting a good education matters in life.  Coach Page did an exceptional job introducing Trevin and talking about the kind of kid he was at Hopewell and what kind of man he has become.  This is the boy’s assembly that is the follow up to the Alexis Jones assembly we held for our girls back in February.   We are continuing to make the necessary changes at Hopewell MS to ensure that we are not only developing academic health but also emotional health as well.  Growing up can be painful in the middle school years and providing these opportunities to hear inspiring perspectives on life will help our kids grow up to be happy and productive lives.

CLOTHES CLOSET INFO:
Please donate gently used clothes along with NEW socks and underwear to the RRISD Clothes Closet. The clothes are given to students enrolled in RRISD from Pre K-12th grades.  Donations may be placed in the large green and white box in the lower commons next to the athletic display cases.  Please remember that all items must be within RRISD dress code.  We DO NOT accept shoes, belts, hats or used under garments.  Thank you in advance for your donations!

LOST & FOUND REMINDER:
We are now in the waning days of the 2014-2015 school year and it’s time to have your child rummage through the lost and found located outside the cafeteria.  Please have them check for their personal belongings.  We will be collecting the lost and found items on Friday, May 15th and donating them to the Clothes Closet.  Thanks!

TEXTBOOKS & LIBRARY BOOKS:
We will be collecting textbooks and library books in the next couple of weeks as we close out instruction for this school year.  Please ask your child if they have all their textbooks ready to turn in and any library books that need to be returned to our library.  If they have lost these books, they will not be able to pick up their class schedules next fall until that obligation has been cleared.  Now is the time to start the search and gather the books to turn in.  Thanks!

FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE AND STUDENT END OF YEAR AWARDS:
We will have this information posted on our school website beginning Monday, May 11th and will send specific dates your way in next week’s Waggoner’s Word.  The last week in June is slated for both of these!

The RRISD Talented and Gifted (TAG) Parent Advisory Council ‘s annual survey is now live for those Hopewell parents of TAG students. The purpose of this survey is to help guide the work of the TAGPAC for next school year. Our “I Am That Girl” Club that was organized this spring as a result of our guest speaker for girls, Alexis Jones, will be traveling over to Union Hill Elementary School to read to their Kinders.   Approximately 30 Hopewell 6th-8th graders will be heading over on Tuesday, May 26th around noon and will be returning around 12:30.  This is just one community service project this girl empowerment club will be organizing and carrying out in the next couple of years.
