If you are a mom or dad that can dedicate some of your time to lead our PTA next school year then please get in touch with me and I will be gladly meet with you and talk to you in more detail as to what this crucial position entails. We are looking for a person that is positive, has the ability to work with a variety of people and personalities, is creative, will have the overall best interests of our great school in mind, will speak positively and favorably within our Hopewell Community about Hopewell, and wants to make a major difference in the school life of our students, staff and community. We have made some extremely positive structural, staffing and instructional changes to Hopewell the past two years and our trajectory is moving in the right direction for our students. Our STAAR scores are significantly improving, other schools and districts are taking notice and are wanting to visit Hopewell MS to find out what we are doing so they can help improve their schools back home. The numbers of transfers has increased significantly because the good word is getting out about Hopewell MS. We are a safe school, are student-centered, and are becoming more progressive in our instructional approach and supporting programs in order to ensure that ALL students are successful and belong at Hopewell. We still have work to do as we are not yet where we want to be with all that but the mission and dedication to these goals are solid. This is a golden opportunity for you as a parent to jump on board and be a part of this positive movement as PTA President. We have a terrific dedicated group of remaining parents on our Executive Board for next year and are ready for your leadership. Our missing piece is that positive leader-you- to fill this important position for our students and staff next school year. Please think about it and if you can help us out, it would be greatly appreciated! Please email me at: karl_waggoner@roundrockisd.org and we’ll set up a time at your convenience to meet. Thanks! WE NEED YOU!! STAAR TESTING ALL NEXT WEEK: Please make sure that you children turn off their electronics at night and get a 7-8 hour good night’s sleep the night prior to each testing day. Also, please make sure that they are getting a healthy breakfast to fuel their think-tank! We are expecting another great effort from our students this next week. ALL our subpopulations in 8th grade Math and Reading really scored exceptionally well and went up in just about every category scored. Our teachers have worked very hard all year long teaching them the essential elements of the curriculum in each core academic subject. Our students are not only prepared for their exams but have a solid learning foundation for high school. Our vision and banner at Hopewell is to teach the curriculum with the appropriate amount of RIGOR and ensuring that the learning is RELEVANT to their life and world. Additionally it is crucial that we build positive relationships with our students. We are working hard in all three of those areas and will continue to grow as a staff in all three of them. Please know that your child will not have homework the night before their STAAR tests or have homework/major projects due on the day of a STAAR test. This rule also applies to afterschool practices and tutorials. RRISD FREE BREAKFAST PROGRAM ALL STAAR TESTING DAYS NEXT WEEK: Attention Students: Nothing prepares you better for testing than a healthy, satisfying breakfast! On testing days, breakfast is FREE to all students! Start your day off right with a delicious meal in the cafeteria and then go ace those exams! Remember, free breakfast for all Hopewell MS students Monday, May 9th-12th!! THANK YOU RRISD NUTRITION DEPARTMENT FOR HELPING OUR KIDS BE THEIR BEST FOR THEIR STAAR TESTS!
HOPEWELL MS STUDENTS AND PROGRAMS IN THE MEDIA!
We have two news stories that are featuring two of Hopewell’s programs that will be coming out this week and next week. These are two very important student oriented programs that are helping define the wonderful student-centered culture we are cultivating here at Hopewell MS. We seek to provide opportunities for our students to grow emotionally healthy and with purpose. Building a sense of community service and helping out others is one of our goals for our students at Hopewell Middle School. These two student organizations do just that and you will begin to see more of those grow in the next several years here.
Reporter Christine Bolanos from the Round Rock Leader newspaper came out this week and interviewed our Junior Historian officers on our program and the successes they have achieved this school year. They have been in several competitions at the state and national levels and have come away with medals in all of them. This story about Hopewell's Jr. Historians will be printed on Saturday, May 7, 2016 so be on the lookout for that both in print and online.
Look for a COOL AT SCHOOL news segment at 6AM on Thursday, May 12th on K-EYE news in the morning.KEYE came out last week and interviewed three of our I AM THAT GIRL club members about what the mission of the club is, what I AM THAT GIRL means to them, and what goals the club has within the Round Rock and Hopewell communities.KEYE staff will be sending me a link that will have the taped broadcast and I’ll send it your way viaWaggoner’s Word, on Twitter@KarlWaggoner, and on our school website.ANYTIME we can get our students and our great school some positive publicity and let the Austin and Round Rock communities know the great programs we offer for our kids here at Hopewell then we will do that.
HOPEWELL MS FUN DATA FACTS ABOUT 8TH GRADE STAAR MATH AND READING RESULTS:
NORTHSIDE ISD IN SAN ANTONIO WILL BE VISITING OUR CAMPUS AND CLASSROOMS AFTER STAAR TESTING:
With the successes that we have been experiencing the past couple of years with the accent our STAAR scores-some districts are taking notice and would like to benchmark what we are doing to help our students be successful.Six teachers and administrators from San Antonio will be in Language Arts classrooms in all three grade levels on Monday, May 23rd and meeting with teachers in their meeting times to discuss instructional strategies, anchoring activities, and benchmarking ideas to help their kids be more successful on STAAR.Last month, we had a group of teachers from a middle school in Belton ISD visit our 7th grade Language Arts classes to gain ideas on how to help their students be more successful with writing. They sat down with the 7th grade Language Arts team and our instructional coach and discussed our programs and systems. Having other schools and districts notice your successes is a great compliment and a confirmation for our teachers and school that our programs and systems are successfully working for our kids.
